Animals Head Of Bloodhound Ethel Tanner Pencil C1903/10
Chantry Fine Art has been in business for over twenty years selling at major antiques fairs including the NEC. We specialise in fine arts, miniatures, water colours and oils. Billing Antiques is a subsidiary of Chantry Fine Art. ETHEL LAVINIA TANNER (EXHB 1907/19) ENGLISH SCHOOL ANIMAL DRAWINGS Ethel Tanner was a london artist based initially at 29 Pelham Place, South Kensington, then a studio at 51 Holland Park Road and finally at 10 Kensington Studios, Kelso Place, Kensington. Her metier was animal painting and she exhibited at the RA., Society of Women Artists and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. We purchased recently a series of her sketchbooks and have extracted a large number of her drawings, mostly animal. We will be feeding these into the site in small numbers, replacing those which are sold. The quality is extremely good; it could be argued not far off Cecil Aldin's work. Her dogs in particular have great character interspersed with humour. None are signed, but the inside front of one of the sketchbook covers is signed. Two of the covers have her visiting card attached. There is no doubt that all are her work. Condition throughout is very fine. All have been affixed and mounted on acid free white paper on acid free board. All are in pencil, though on a few a bluish tone is visible. Ignore this, all are black pencil on white paper which has minimal toning after 100 years. All were drawn between 1903 and 1910. This powerful drawing is of the head of a Bloodhound. Size 6" x 6" (15cm x 15cm) (stock 5217)
