Very Detailed and Beautiful Pencil Drawing of Elvis.

Signed R. Peace? 1987.

If anyone knows the artist or the name please let me know, I can't find him online and I'll be amazed if he's not well known, this drawing is superb (in my opinion it's better than the "King" of Elvis pencil drawings, Glen Fortune Banse, whose originals would be worth many thousands!)

The shading and detail on this picture are stunning, I have some extreme close ups (with the lens only 15 or so mm away) to give you an idea of the detail.

Signed and dated in the bottom right hand corner.

Set in a polished metal frame or decent quality, seems contemporary to the drawing. Good condition throughout, no yellowing on the paper, no frame damage.

Measures 17.5 x 13.5 inches approximately including the frame.

PETER HOWSON OBE (BORN -1958)

SIGNED DRAWING - PORTRIAT OF A WOMAN 2009

Peter Howson has established a formidable reputation as one of his generation's leading figurative painters. Many of his paintings derive inspiration from the streets of Glasgow, where he was brought up. He is renowned for his penetrating insight into the human condition, and his heroic portrayals of the mighty and meek. His art is described by Robert Heller as "founded in Humanity, especially the human face"

Howson was born in London in 1958. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1975 - 1977, and returned in 1979 to complete a Masters degree . In 1985 he was made the Artist in Residence at the University of St Andrews and also a part-time tutor at Glasgow School of Art. In 1992 he was commissioned by the Imperial War Museum to record the conflict in the former Yugoslavia . He was appointed official British war artist for Bosnia in 1993 and a few years later in 1996 was awarded Doctor of Letters Honoras Causa, University of Strathclyde.

Peter Howson has exhibited with Flowers since the 1980s. His work has been shown in major shows around the world including the 'Eye on Europe' exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and 'The Naked Portrait' exhibition in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2007.

Prior to converting to Christianity in 2000 , Howson responded to pain by pursuing hedonism. His experiences of abuse - whether self-inflicted and substance-related or the traumatic events of his childhood - have afforded him an affinity with those individuals who are classed as somehow 'on the edge'. His work has caught the attention of a number of prominent cultural figures, celebrities and creatives as well as striking a chord with prisoners, a voiceless demographic from whom Howson receives many letters of support. His ability to speak to the peripheries - to both the exclusive echelons living 'the highlife' and the socially alienated outsiders labelled 'low lives' - is proof of his enduring skill at capturing the maverick, excessive and non-conformist, while also seeking spiritual change.

Howson recently completed a dramatic rendering of the martyrdom of St John Ogilvie for the renovated St Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow. The process of working on the commission has been the subject of a BBC documentary recorded over the past two years.

Howson was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2009 Birthday Honours for sevices to the visual arts.

An interesting work, characterisations in pencil, ink and coloured crayon of, we believe, Edwardian policemen – typically the type of hat and tunic worn, with lapel insignia. Either for a theatre costumier’, perhaps an animation or just an artist sketching for another work, the sheet is not signed. We have removed the backing to inspect, as the work is presented in a contemporary glazed frame. Some creasing to the pager, from the type of paper appears to date, c1920s or thereabouts. Is not English in our opinion, possibly French or Belgian – and labelled as French School in our inventory. Excellent quality, detailed characterisations which are very much alive, all of the same personality – some in plain black ink, others in pencil and others – the main drawing centre of the page - in brown crayon with black ink highlighting. Presented in good overall condition having been retained under glaze, please see the condition report following. Presented in a contemporary gilded frame, this picture looks fabulous displayed. Size, medium and condition: Size, viewable artwork within matt, 34 x 22cm (13.5 x 8.5 inches), frame 58 x 46cm (23 x 18 inches). Medium, Ink, crayon and pencil on artist’ sketchpad paper, taped to matt. Overall condition is very good for its age, without damage or previous restoration, good contrast and colourfast throughout, importantly no foxing; some creasing to the paper is noticed, especially the bottom right corner. Can either be left as it is, as clearly shows aging – or consideration should be given to mounting to card, to suit. The contemporary wooden frame shows light age related wear. Biography:

Vita Gollancz (1926–2009) was a British painter, printmaker, illustrator and draughtsman.

Life and work:

Born in 1926, Vita Gollancz was the fourth daughter of the publisher Victor Gollancz and his wife Ruth Gollancz née Lowy - an artist who had studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks. Painting and drawing featured prominently in Vita's early life, not only from the influence of her mother, but from the many established art luminaries that visited their Eaton Square home. Vita attended St Paul's Girls School, London where during a visit to her school, Stanley Spencer declined to review her work fearing it improper to comment on the work of a mature artist. After reading Modern History at Cambridge University she worked for some years as manager of Hugh Casson and Neville Conder's architectural practice. She then returned to painting in her thirties, first studying at Chelsea School of Art and at Byam Shaw, then exhibited regularly at the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions. A solo exhibition at the Annexe Gallery was followed by regular studio shows.

In the late 1960s Vita regularly went with a group of artists led by Peter Garrard to paint in the Midi, near Uzes. In the 1980s she travelled around the Mediterranean, painting Crete and the Greek Islands - her works from this period are almost abstract.

John Kenworthy-Browne observed that, "her landscape paintings bring to mind an elusive concept of Constable's, the Chiaroscuro of nature... that power which creates space." Vita's sister Livia Ruth Gollancz was a noted musician who later became controlling director of Victor Gollancz Ltd, on the death of their father. Both sisters contributed to their father Victor Gollancz's 1968 autobiography Reminiscences of Affection; Vita provided illustrations, whilst Livia penned the foreword.

Arthur Rackham Original Pencil Drawing – Superb Provenance – A One-off

For sale is an incredible piece of 20th century Art History - two original pencil drawings by Arthur Rackham. This has absolutely wonderful provenance, having been sold by Barbara Rackham (Arthur's daughter), at auction with Phillips Auctioneers (now Bonhams), in Bayswater, London, on Tuesday 4th May, at 12 noon. I personally guarantee this drawing to be 100% authentic, and a letter of authenticity will be provided to the purchaser.

The front (as framed) shows a cathedral, with annotations, and to the verso is a similar building - again with annotations. It is a charming one-off piece which will grace any collection. Mounted in cream card and housed within a dark wood glazed frame, it really does compliment the fluid, and expertly sketched scenes. There are a handful of spots to the surface of the paper, but these could either be removed, or left - they do not detract from the drawings in the least. The measurements of the drawings (as mounted) are as follows: 10cm wide; 13cm high. The actual dimensions of the leaf are considerably larger.

Rackham was born in London, 1867. At the age of 18, he worked as a clerk at the Westminster Fire Office and began studying part-time at the Lambeth School of Art. In 1892 he quit his job and started working for The Westminster Budgetas a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893 in To the Other Side by Thomas Rhodes, but his first serious commission was in 1894 for The Dolly Dialogues, the collected sketches of Anthony Hope, who later went on to write The Prisoner of Zenda. Book illustrating then became Rackham's career for the rest of his life. In 1903 he married Edyth Starkie, with whom he had one daughter, Barbara, in 1908. Rackham won a gold medal at the Milan International Exhibition in 1906 and another one at the Barcelona International Exposition in 1912. His works were included in numerous exhibitions, including one at the Louvre in Paris in 1914. Arthur Rackham died 1939 of cancer in his home in Limpsfield, Surrey.

This is a very fine painting of one of the oldest streets in Norwich.Elm Hill, is an historic cobbled lane in Norwich, Norfolk with many buildings dating back to the Tudor period. Frequently used in TV and film productions,it is a famous Norwich landmark much visited by tourists and features the Briton's Arms coffee house, The Stranger's Club and the famous Dormouse bookshop.Painted by Victoria Bolt in an impressionist style this is a pleasing painting with a good sense of composition and a nice choice of blended colours.

Description:A fine maritime scene sketch on artist's paper dating circa 1860, framed - approx 10 X 12 inches (25.4 X 30.48cm).This is a fine English School sketch dating from the Victorian period. The maritime scene depicts a fine Victorian antique 19th Century period pencil sketch featuring a large three masted sail ship, sail semi-furled as she leaves harbour, a smaller sail boat heading to shore with yachts in the distance. The sketch has been attributed, verso, to "H.L. Wedmore" and signed beneath the mount. Date:The sketch probably dates to around 1860. Framing:Later plain moulded Pine. Finish: Black.The sketch is mounted on board and has a off-white mount. Condition:The artist's paper has mellowed with age and there are several foxing marks as can be seen in the photos, otherwise having survived the years well. His first professional acting role was as a wheelchair basketball player in the children's TV series Desperados. David is also well known as Adam Best in BBC's EastEnders!
