95% of framed pictures (except the very small ones) are now being sent out in custom made cartons. These are extremely sturdy telescopic cartons that provide a level of protection virtually as good as a wooden crate. These are far superior to recycled cartons which usually have been weakened by prior use. The cost for each of these cartons is exactly £4.00 which must be passed on to the buyer. Since we have been using these cartons, there have been essentially no reports of damage in transit. From time to time we do stumble across a previously used carton which is as good as ours, and on occassions we do use them. For overseas shipments we often use alternative packing means to keep the weight under 2kg. Usually this means about 20 layers of bubble wrap (which is very light) and very little cardboard.

Full insurance is included in the postage and packing charge. No carrier will insure against damage to artwork or antiques so we provide this insurance ourselves. There is a small amount included in the shipping charge for this.

Glass will be removed from all overseas shipments and all pieces of glass with either dimension greater than 45cm will be removed from UK shipments. Despite best packing efforts, the carriers manage to break larger pieces of glass with frustrating regularity. When we do ship small pictures with glass, we will often tape the glass with masking tape. If the glass seems particularly vulnerable, we will re-arrange the picture so the the backing board is between the glass and the painting, so that even if the glass breaks it will be unlikely to damage the painting. In this case it will be necessary to put the painting back in the proper position when it arrives. Unframed pictures will be sent rolled in a postal tube if appropriate.

We offer a money back no quibble guarantee. Please contact us within 7 days for return authorization. When the item is received within a further 7 days in the same condition as when it left arrived, your payment price will be refunded in the same manner as which it was paid. Carriage charges are not normally refundable unless fairness dictates otherwise. We try to be as reasonable as possible.

This is considered normal with antique objects. We attempt to mention significant problems, and always include excellent images. You should rely upon your inspection of the images. Description & Artist For sale is an original late 19th century oil painting on canvas of a Old Thatched Watermill, painted by the listed British artist Thomas Whittle, Jnr. (British, Fl. 1856 - 1897). An age darkened painting that depicts an old thatched watermill, and looking closely a figure stood by the bank, just under his elbow appears to be the head of his dog, there are pigeons on the roof and in flight set against a stormy sky. The painting has a visible image of 23.5" by 19.5" inches, it is signed lower right 'T. Whittle' and is dated '1882'. It is framed in a later heavy wood and gesso frame measuring 31" by 27" inches, made in the traditional antique style with a deep recessed boarder thickly decorated with perforated foliage and flowers and ornately stylised petals at the four corners. This is a genuine and authentic painting by Thomas Whittle, Jnr. and has a label verso with provenance from Christie's Auction House. There is a condition report below. The images are slightly sharper if viewed on Picasa by the above link. Worldwide shipping is included in the price. The landscape painter Thomas Whittle, Jnr. was born in 1842 in Foots Cray, in Kent. He followed in the footsteps of his father who also painted landscapes in a similar style. His paintings are in the National Collection. He died in 1897. Artist Biography

An award-winning artist noted for his abstract work and cityscapes, Wilfred is in fact particularly popular for his yacht and boat images of all forms.

Dutch in origin, born in China, he was encouraged from an early age by his artist parents and began painting at the age of seven, later receiving formal training at the Fine Art College of Shanghai.

Because of his unique ability to blend color and form, Wilfred is popular with collectors the world over. Lang divides his time evenly between homes in Hawaii and Amsterdam, and has recently gained considerable popularity in America.

Winter portrayal of a group of five young men huddled on a muddy path in a village/country setting. Civilisation is not too far away with a zebra crossing lamp and a traditional British red Telephone box in the distance.

The painting is supplied unframed on board and in very good condition.

Lewis Davis was a prolific artist and "inspirational" teacher of art who died in 2010 at the age of 71. His most acclaimed work was the 52 paintings which illustrated scenes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner - he was inspired by the Ancient Mariner because it was full of imagery and he was able to illustrate every verse.

Originally from Waltham Forest, Lewis retired to Cromer in Norfolk seven years before his death and continued to paint every day being inspired by the countryside and churches of the area. He also decorated one of the Go Elephants exhibited in Norwich during the summer of 2008 with scenes from The Ancient Mariner and this subsequently achieved £3,800 when auctioned for charity.

The colours used in this study are bright and together with the striking main subject provide a pleasing and well composed painting that would be a delightful addition to any collection.

A truly splendid and rare large antique original framed Dutch Castle ruin seascape-landscape oil painting.

The magnificent & majestic work executed during the early part of the 20th century, and depicting an amazingly detailed Dutch castle ruin scene in what appears to be on one of the many Dutch canals.

The painting is unsigned, but it is very clear for all to see that the artist was an extremely highly accomplished and very professional artist indeed.

The attention to detail, the clear understanding of the subject matter and the fabulous water reflection really do stand out in this work as one of the great artists of the day.

Indeed, this painting just about has it all! The scene depicts a number of native Dutch folk enjoying the canal in their boats, whilst a small duck family paddle across the open water.

The condition and colours of this work can only be described as virtually perfect, and it benefits from a stunning (but Later) conforming moulded frame that has a type of roped gilt decoration which compliments the work brilliantly.

2:A standing rear aspect gazing out of the window, she is turned slightly to the artist exposing one breast to his view with one arm to her front and the other draped back over her buttocks

3:A standing frontal view, the model is standing in front of the window and has her arms by her side and the sun shining off her blonde hair

4:A seated frontal view with head turned in profile, the artist has captured the model from the waist up in this view. This painting bears the artist's signature "Lewis Davies" together with the date, "2006"

This is a very well executed set of paintings that would look superb either mounted in one large frame or four individual frames.

A delightful oil on canvas portrait of a red setter dog. The artist has capture the wonderful expression and long chestnut silky coat which this affectionate breed is loved for. Note how the coat feathers at the ears and chest.

The painting is signed in the lower right corner however the writer cannot make out with certainty the artist's name. A digitally altered version of the signature has been included below for viewers to decide for themselves.
