Media - Collage on board

Here is 20x16x1/2 " abstract collage mixed media mounted onto MDF board, with hanging fittings on the back, therefore no framing is required - it can be hung straight on the wall. This piece, like my other work, draws on abstract shape and pattern, which can evoke a memory, place or other feeling or emotion in the viewer. This composition has a retro feel with the shapes and colours I have chosen for the design. To make a work like this, I spend a very long time chosing paper, moving pieces, adjusting little by little till everything feels right and looks balanced. In my own mind, this piece evokes pebbles, land mass, islands buildings and even a shoreline. The background has been built up into a very sophisticated, multi layered, deep coloured, surface by the application of very thin layers of acrylic which has been frottaged, splattered and painted again until the right depth of tone and light has been achieved. Onto this I have collaged the simplified shapes which are made from my own printed papers. Finished with multiple coats of varnish for protection and shine.  These works of art are very unusual, decorative and would create 'wow factor' in any domestic or office interior.
