Rendle Wood: Robert Sydney Rendle Wood, NS (1894-1987) was a Plymouth born painter of landscapes and coastal scenes in oil, tempera and water-colour.

He studied at Plymouth School of Art and later at Edinburgh College of Art under David Foggie.

It is probable that he became acquainted with the work of the Scottish Colourists during his time in Scotland, and later in his working life he demonstrated a fine sense of colour in his own pictures.

He exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Society of Scottish Painters in Watercolours, Glasgow Institute, Society of Scottish Artists, and with the National Society of Painters and Gravers (NS) of which group he was a full member.

He lived in Northern Ireland for some years and was a member of the Ulster Art Society in the late 1920s, during which time he became secretary.

Rendle Wood was also honorary secretary and a member of Ulster Academy of Arts. After returning to the West Country he became a member of the St Ives Society of Artists and of the Plymouth Society of Artists.

He lived at Plymstock in South Devon and later at St. Austell in Cornwall.

the sunset in the most glorious impressionist style with peaches, mauves lilacs and blues in the sea with the darker green of the cliff top vegetation in the foreground - it is a really lovely painting with a vintage wood frame with a gilt outer half and an inset white slip area - minor scuffs to the frame - the painting has a very few light spots to clean off - - the colours in this painting create a restful atmosphere and would suit the decor in the many homes - the painting comes with picture hooks and cord ready to hang - this one should not be missed

A very pretty and incredibly well detailed little acrylic painting which uses vibrant blues and golds to contrast the dramatic theatre of the dark Highlands of Scotland as they tumble to meet the sea.

 Below a peacock-blue sky a couple wander along the wide, rock strewn sandy beach which gives way to green meadow in the mid-distance before climbing the lower slopes of the Highlands.  In the bay, two sailing boats are enjoying a summer day, their sails reflected in the perfect blue waters while gentle waves break at the shore in gentle white peaks.

Presented unframed in excellent condition in a cream mount.
