Description: You are bidding for a stunning and very beautiful
antique watercolour painting by J.Stannard. It is titled to the front with J
Stannard of Norwich. As you can see looking at the picture of the back this
painting was probably remounted 50 - 60 years ago and hasn't been opened or
disturbed, this is when a professional framer would have added the artist to the
gold mount.

The painting under an eye
glass confirms its an original watercolour and not an elaborate print. The
seascape/nautical theme is typical of this artists genre. On investigation many
others show a similar theme

Joseph
Stannard (13 Sep
1797 – 7 Dec 1830) was an English marine and landscape painter, and etcher, a
prominent member of the Norwich school of artists (1803-1833).

Stannard
was born in Norwich, England, and became, for a short time, a pupil of Robert
Ladbrooke. One of his paintings was exhibited at the Norwich Society of
Artists as early as 1811 and there was a positive review of his work in a
local newspaper, "The Norwich Mercury", in August 1818. He made
connections with Norwich's Theatre Royale 1819-20, and his youthful work
included a Scene in a Norwich
Ale-house, depicting
several well-known colourful characters who lived in the city.

In 1819 Stannard exhibited in London and in 1821 he visited
Holland. The following year he exhibited The Ferry, from a
celebrated Picture of Berchem in the Musee des Tableaux,
Amsterdam. This visit to the Netherlands contributed to a new oil technique and
deepened his interest in marine subjects.

The painting is shown within a white mount then a larger gold coloured
mount which is titled, this is then behind glass in a gold painted wood frame
with Barbola styled flowers and scroll relief, some of which over the years has
become loose and touched up.

If you are a collector of fine antique paintings and love seascape and
or Stannards work then you will love this

(Some of the money from sale of this painting will be given to a youth charity)

Size (inches) The frame is approx 12" high x
14.5" wide, the actual visible painting is approx 6.25" high x
8.75" high

Condition: , The frame is as stated above and as shown, the
painting has no rips or repairs none or very minimal foxing if any. As you can
see this is a great painting by a listed artist

A truly splendid and rare large antique original framed Dutch Castle ruin seascape-landscape oil painting.

The magnificent & majestic work executed during the early part of the 20th century, and depicting an amazingly detailed Dutch castle ruin scene in what appears to be on one of the many Dutch canals.

The painting is unsigned, but it is very clear for all to see that the artist was an extremely highly accomplished and very professional artist indeed.

The attention to detail, the clear understanding of the subject matter and the fabulous water reflection really do stand out in this work as one of the great artists of the day.

Indeed, this painting just about has it all! The scene depicts a number of native Dutch folk enjoying the canal in their boats, whilst a small duck family paddle across the open water.

The condition and colours of this work can only be described as virtually perfect, and it benefits from a stunning (but Later) conforming moulded frame that has a type of roped gilt decoration which compliments the work brilliantly.

A superb, almost impressionist style of painting that will guarantee to put a huge smile on any new owners face, as well as providing for a great future investment.

On
offer here is a beautiful oil on board painting from the Victorian period of
the 19th century.

Here we have a lovely oil on
board painting in a gilt frame signed to bottom by W. Collins. The scene is a
classic image of a waterfall and rolling forested hills. A lovely piece.

Condition.

In good condition commensurate
with age, please do not expect this item to be as new, the gilt frame is
damaged with chips and cracks to paint, but the image itself is fine.

On
offer here is a beautiful oil on board painting from the Victorian period of
the 19th century.

Here we have a lovely oil on
board painting in a gilt frame signed to bottom by W. Collins. The scene is a
classic image of a waterfall and rolling forested hills. A lovely piece.

Condition.

In good condition commensurate
with age, please do not expect this item to be as new, the gilt frame is
damaged with chips and cracks to paint, but the image itself is fine.

This is a little house altar to St. Mary, which consists of a free standing carved wood tabernacle-type frame with a strut in the back and two hinged shutters at the front, which reveal a painting of the Madonna holding baby Jesus. The picture is hand-painted, probably on porcelain, and possibly over transfer outlines. The frame is engraved: “O. Ammergau”, which stands for Oberammergau, a small town in Bavaria, Germany, where the famous Passion Plays are enacted on a regular basis. This tradition started in 1634 in an attempt to halt the ravages of the plague, and as the death toll significantly declined thereafter, the grateful inhabitants continued, to this day, to produce the play every 10 years. Oberammergau has by now become a world-famous tourist attraction and a place of pilgrimage. This devotional item must have been bought there as a souvenir by one of the visitors and brought back to the UK. It is difficult to ascertain the age of this item, because obviously it has been well looked after, but I would think that it is certainly pre WWI. It could even be older and could have been purchased by a wealthy person on his “Grand Tour”, because, as a hand-crafted item, it would not have been cheap in its days.

The item is ca. 24.6cm high, 10.8cm wide or 12cm wide with the shutters open. It is in super condition and seems to be rare, because I tried to research it on the Internet and found nothing like it.

1st Class Recorded Delivery within the UK is £3.65.

Internationally signed for airmail delivery to EU countries is £8.08.

Internationally signed for airmail delivery to USA and worldwide is £9.01.

A silhouette refers to a featureless portrait painting which depicts the outline of the sitter. They were particularly popular during the 18th and early 19th century.

This silhouette is Georgian in date and features a gentleman with a high collar and tied cravat. His name is written on the back of the painting but is illegible. He is said to be a departmental head at The Bank of England.

It is painted on paper and housed in a traditional, ebonised frame complete with acorn hanger. It measures 11cm x 9cm x 2cm.

A gilt bezel surrounds the painting and it is encompassed in convex glass. The glass a few very light markings but overall is in excellent order with no chips.

The back features a strut to allow the picture to sit on a table or mantel etc. This was probably added at a later time.

Description: For sale is
a original antique oil painting on board of a Wooded
River Landscape with a Horseman and Sheep. The painting is signed and dated
lower right 'Thos Creswick 1841' (Thomas Creswick
1811 - 1869). The painting is unframed, though comes
with a wood and gesso frame that is possibly
original to the painting though requires
restoration. The painting was bought last year from
an antique shop in Lewes, and I have since found
there is some auction house provenance with
Gorringes Auctioneers where it was previously listed
for sale, though I am not familiar enough with the artist to
offer my usual personal guarantee that it is a
genuine by Thomas Creswick. There are many
auction listings with paintings as school and circle of the artist.
There is a condition report below. The images are
slightly sharper if viewed on Picasa by the above
link. Worldwide shipping is included in the price.

Thomas
Creswick is a well known and collected British
artist, his work appeas regularly at auction houses
including Christie's and Bonhams. There are 573 Auction House results on Blouin Art Sales Index up
to £32,000, and 119 examples on
findartinfo.com.

Artist: Thomas Creswick,
British, (5th February 1811 - 28th December 1969)
was an English landscape painter and illustrator,
and one of the best-known members of the Birmingham
School of landscape painters.

Creswick was
born in Sheffield (at the time it was within
Derbyshire). He was the son of Thomas Creswick and
Mary Epworth and educated at Hazelwood, near
Birmingham. At Birmingham he first began to paint.
His earliest appearance as an exhibitor was in 1827,
at the Society of British Artists in London; in the
ensuing year he sent to the Royal Academy the two
pictures named Llyn Gwynant, Morning, and Carnarvon
Castle. About the same time he settled in London;
and in 1836 he took a house in Bayswater. He soon
attracted some attention as a landscape painter, and
had a career of uniform and encouraging, though not
signal success. In 1842 he was elected an associate,
and in 1850 a full member of the Royal Academy,
which, for several years before his death, numbered
hardly any other full members representing this
branch of art.

In his early
practice he set an example, then too much needed, of
diligent study of nature out of doors, painting on
the spot all the substantial part of several of his
pictures. English and Welsh streams may be said to
have formed his favourite subjects, and generally
British rural scenery, mostly under its cheerful,
calm and pleasurable aspects, in open daylight. This
he rendered with elegant and equable skill, color
rather grey in tint, especially in his later years,
and more than average technical accomplishment; his
works have little to excite, but would, in most
conditions of public taste, retain their power to
attract.

Creswick was
industrious and extremely prolific; he produced,
besides a steady outpouring of paintings, numerous
illustrations for books. He was personally genial, a
dark, bulky man, somewhat heavy and graceless in
aspect in his later years. He died at his house in
Bayswater, Linden Grove, after a few years of
declining health. Among his principal works may be
named England (1847); Home by the Sands, and a
Squally Day (1848); Passing Showers (1849); The Wind
on Shore, a First Glimpse of the Sea, and Old Trees
(1850); A Mountain Lake, Moonrise (1852); Changeable
Weather (1865); also the London Road, a Hundred
Years ago; The Weald of Kent; the Valley Mill (a
Cornish subject); a Shady Glen; the Windings of a
River; the Shade of the Beech Trees; the Course of
the Greta; the Wharfe; Glendalough, and other Irish
subjects, 1836 to 1840; the Forest Farm Frith for
figures. The artist Richard Ansdell occasionally
worked in collaboration with Creswick.

Creswick has
paintings in several British Collections including
Sheffield, Canterbury, Derby Art Gallery and the
Nothampton Gallery.

Condition:
The painting has two small areas of missing
paint along the left and right edge, a small 1 inch
scratch from the center bottom edge, though the
surface varnish has a lot of visible crackalure on
the left side the actual paint underneath is in good condition throughout, there are no visible signs of any restoration. The painting is darker than my camera
has represented due to lighting and the varnish. The
frame has many loses though I think many of these
have been saved in the bag as shown. The photographs
form part of the description, please study all the
images to fully satisfy yourself as to the
condition.

When
I
list
artwork
as
an
oil painting, watercolour or a print that is quite
simply what it really is. If I sell a artwork as by a
particular artist, without a doubt it is guaranteed to
be original artwork by that artist. Where I list
artwork as by a follower or school of an artist, or
from a specific genre, that based on research and the
available information is what I believe the artwork
most likely is. If I am not sure about the artist,
medium, or genre, I will clearly say so and tell you
why.

Postage
& Packaging & Insurance: Listed postal
prices are for the UK (Mainland), Europe (Excluding
the Special Territories) and the USA & Canada. If
you are located elsewhere, please enquire before
bidding for additional postage costs. Postage will be
combined where possible on multiple purchases.

items the cheapest trackable and insured service
available from a International Courier. If you are
located outside the UK please know and be aware of
your own countries Customs Charges, as these are paid
by the buyer on receipt of the parcel. To safeguard
the sale for myself and safe delivery through Customs,
I will never state a lower value for the parcel on the
Customs Invoice to avoid charges.

Items are packed
in new packaging materials specially bought in bulk
and shipped to me from a wholesale supplier. This
ensures I can use a lot of quality packaging materials
to protect your items and keep the handling costs
down.

All parcels are
covered with insurance at or above the value the item
sold for.

Glazed
Picture Frames: Couriers do not cover the
glass in framed pictures. For this reason I can only
sell the picture and the unglazed frame, without the
glass. Where a listing says or shows a picture as
glazed, the glass is include and posted, though only
as a free gesture of goodwill.

Postal

items to be packed & posted following the sale.
Normally parcels are sent within three working days
after payment. However, I do sometimes overstretch my
work load and at those times items may take longer. I
offer a Postal Guarantee to all buyers, that unless
stated otherwise in the listing, if I fail to post an
item within 5 working days of payment the postal costs
will be refunded in full (Excludes courier delivery
time).

Returns:
Returns are accepted when

1. In the unlikely event a purchase is significantly
ascertained to be not as described collectively by
both the description and photographic images. I will
offer a full refund without question and pay the
return costs.

2. If the item arrives damaged on delivery. On
condition of being informed within 24 hours and
packaging retained, I will launch a claim with the
Courier. Courier's often ask that damaged items and
packaging remain in situ while claims are being
investigated. This process can take several weeks and
I can only accept return and offer a refund when the
Courier investigation is complete.

3. Most Buy It Now purchases are covered under the
Distance Selling Regulations, which give consumer
buyers the right to cancel the purchase within seven
working days after the day they receive the item. In
this instance I expect the buyer to pay for the return
of the purchase.

Payment:
I accept PayPal, Cheques, and Postal Orders, Instant
Bank Transfer for purchases over £100, and
payment in person. Cheques must clear before posting.
Please advice of your chosen payment method within two
days of winning an item, or the item may be re-listed
and non payment lodged with eBay. Please make sure
your delivery address is correct because to comply to
eBay's protection programs, items can only be sent to
the address on the order details.

Description:An excellent still life mixed media on artist's glass dating circa 1900, framed - approx 30 X 24 inches (76.2 X 60.96cm).This is an excellent English School mixed media dating from the Victorian period. The still life depicts a stunning, colourful and unusual reverse glass painting on glass, of game from the late 19th Century Victorian period. A popular form of art during the Victorian period, this bright and vibrant image depicts a hare hanging from a tree in a naturalistic woodland setting, flanked by a brace of pheasants and two partridge. A large and impressive image with deep rich colouring and a rare piece of art, many examples not surviving due to the delicate nature of the glass. There were a range of mediums applied to glass to create the paintings. Superb.

Date:The mixed media probably dates to around 1900.

Framing:Contemporary plain moulded Wood. Finish: Black.

Condition:The painting retains good rich vibrancy. There are some areas of flaking to the medium, particularly on the body of the pheasant, ears of the hare and crazing to the lower left as can be clearly seen in the photos. This is not unusual for a reverse glass painting of this age, the majority of the image having survived its years well. The frame has minor wear consistent with age.

100% Feedback

Gouache on Paper. 57cm x 35cm (70cm x 47cm framed)

19th Century Neapolitan School “STROMBOLI”

A late 19th century gouache painting depicting a minor eruption of the Stromboli volcano. Probably painted as a souvenir of a visit for a wealthy family on the grand tour.

CONDITION Minor foxing to the sky. Small tears to the edges of the paper. Presented in a later frame with some nibbles. Although quite hangable in its present state, it requires properly mounting and reframing to bring out the full potential of the painting.

Payment and Shipping

Payment via PayPal within 48 hours would be appreciated. Paintings despatched within one working day of payment.

Please check out my other items for sale - updated daily

You
are bidding on wonderful early crystoleum entitled the ' The Vase
Painter ' signed by German artist Friedrich Paul Thuman a German artist (
1834 to 1908 ) - Thuman was a historical, portrait and genre painter as
well as a print maker. He was appointed Director of the Berlin Academy
in 1878 the crystoleum is on bowed glass and is in very good condition
with no chips or cracks - there is some slight reaction on the left hand
side and near the top but nothing that detracts - it comes in its
original gilded fram - please see below for details of the process -it measures 11.5 inches in height and 9.5 inches in width

History Of The Crystoleum Painting

The crystoleum was a modern
application of an ancient technique where colour was applied behind a print or
lithograph which had been rendered transparent with wax or varnish. In the case
of the crystoleum, also known as a chromo-photograph, an albumen print was
pasted face down to the inside curve of a piece of concave glass. Flat glass
was not so suitable.

The paper backing of the photograph
was then carefully removed with sandpaper until only the emulsion was left
adhering to the back of the glass. The photograph was then rendered transparent
with a slow-drying oil or wax, and the image was ready for the first
application of colour. The intricate detail of the photograph, such as
jewellery, lips, and eyes, was then coloured with a fine brush. When this was
finished a second, matching curved glass was placed behind the first with
spacers to keep it close to, but not touching, the photograph which had just
been coloured. The two glasses were then bound together at the edge. The broad
areas of colour were then applied to the back of the second glass, no detail
being required as this was on the photograph itself which was now safely
sandwiched between the two pieces of glass. Portions of the broad areas of
colour could be removed and reapplied until the right effect was achieved, and
when the artist was satisfied white card could be attached to the back of the
second glass and the whole assembly mounted in a frame. The materials for
crystoleum painting were a commercial item and available until around 1915

Signed and resembling reverse glass paintings, crystoleums
are a combination of print and hand painting that gained huge popularity in the
30 years from 1885. Prints of the original paintings were pressed up against
curved glass, the detail and colour gently rubbed away until all but the ink
outlines were left and the colour and detail was then hand painted inside - the
curved glass giving added depth to the image. Though thousands were painted,
few survive and the quality and condition of these is excellent. Dating from
around 1900, the painting retains its original gilded frame. Many hours of
painstaking work went into these exquisite works of art

Victorian Antique Wealthy Gentleman Aristocrat Portrait Oil Painting. Free Post

Telephone: 011 44 1432 357753

Description:A fine portrait oil on artist's canvas dating circa 1880 - 1900, unframed - approx 30 X 25 inches (76.2 X 63.5cm).This is a fine English School oil dating from the Victorian period. The portrait depicts a classic late 19th Century Victorian period study of an affluent gentleman, possible a lawyer, barrister, politician or land owner. As was fashionable in Victorian times, wealthy families would often have their portraits painted as a sign of their position or standing is society. On a dark ground the gent sigs in a chair. He wears a large black overcoat, matkching waistcoat, white shirt and bow tie. He looks directly at the viewer, his hair swept from his forehead and sporting fashionable side burns. The artist has captured the features of this middle aged gent wonderfully with great use of light and shade. A classic portrait from the Victorian period.

Date:The oil probably dates to around 1880 - 1900.

Framing: NoneThe oil is mounted on a stretcher.

Condition:The painting has suffered some damage. There are some white flecks on the canvas, light blooming across the lower third with an amount of flaking to the lower section. There are a couple of repairs, most significantly to the left side of his head (as viewed) where the canvas has been patched due to an old hole. Nevertheless, a good example of a 19th Century portrait.
