He was one of the first members of staff at Edinburgh College of Art and his long career there influenced many of the leading figures in Scottish painting in the 20th century, such as William Gillies, John Maxwell and Anne Redpath. Lintott was a slow and meticulous painter of portraits, landscapes and dream-like allegorical subjects.
